On Friday, police closed off access to Heuermann's Massapequa Park residence. On a block of larger, well-kept houses, officials in hazmat suits could be seen entering the small one-story house. Investigators also searched Heuermann's offices in midtown Manhattan in addition to the property.
Some neighbours claimed that although Heuermann and his family occasionally interacted with them over the years, they tended to keep to themselves.
Heuermann distinguished himself as a "huge, big, big guy. Patrica Maressa, 64, who has lived next door to Heuermann's home for more than 20 years, said Heuermann is "always well dressed."
